PhD in Machine Learning

Welcome

I am a PhD student in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Mateja Jamnik. My research focuses on data efficient machine learning methods for integrating omics data. Specifically, I am interested in making probabilistic models more effective on small datasets by learning prior parameter distributions.

I obtained an MPhil in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science at University College London. I was declared the best student in the entire Engineering Faculty at UCL, the best Romanian student in the UK and top 3 in Europe. I like solving real-world technical challenges, and I am proud to have led the youngest team qualified to the World Finalist of Google HashCode. Before that, I was a competitive programmer, winning three Gold Medals in the Computing Olympiads and a bronze medal in ACM-ICPC NW-Europe.

I enjoy teaching and my online course “Introduction to Algorithms and Data structures in C++" enrolled over 80,000+ students. I created 40+ videos on my Youtube channel, discussing philosophy, productivitysuccess and life in general. I also make videos explaining machine learning papers.

I spent two wonderful summers in San Francisco, doing internships at one of the world’s leading data analytics companies, Quantcast.

I grew up in Targu Jiu, Romania.
