Welcome

I am a PhD student in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Mateja Jamnik. My research focuses on data efficient machine learning methods (learning from very small datasets, in the order of 100s of samples). Specifically, I am interested in making probabilistic models more effective on small datasets by learning prior parameter distributions.

I obtained an MPhil in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science at University College London. I was declared the best student in the entire Engineering Faculty at UCL, the best Romanian student in the UK and top 3 in Europe. I like solving real-world technical challenges, and I am proud to have led the youngest team qualified to the World Finalist of Google HashCode. Before that, I was a competitive programmer, winning three Gold Medals in the Computing Olympiads and a bronze medal in ACM-ICPC NW-Europe.

I enjoy teaching and my online course “Introduction to Algorithms and Data structures in C++" enrolled over 80,000+ students. I created 40+ videos on my Youtube channel, discussing philosophy, productivitysuccess and life in general. I also make videos explaining machine learning papers.

I did an internship at Huawei Research UK in 2021, researching novel generative modeling techniques for lossless data compression. Previously, I spent two wonderful summers in San Francisco, doing internships at one of the world’s leading data analytics companies, Quantcast.

I grew up in Targu Jiu, Romania.
